Super
Distinguished
HealthToasters is
super distinguished in 2006-2007
The HealthToasters Toastmaster club has achieved the
status as a President’s Distinguished Club for the year which concludes
at the end of June. Topping that distinction, we have ties to two
individuals that attained Toastmasters highest honor, DTM, this year
and the club is proud to have both of them in our membership history.
Ryan Hove
and Stephen Shaner achieved
the Distinguished Toastmaster
(DTM) award this year. This is the highest level of achievement
that the Toastmasters International (TI) organization bestows and it
recognizes both communication and leadership skills.
Ryan
Hove
Ryan is an active member and officer in the HealthToasters club. He has
been in Toastmasters for eight years and served in many different
officer roles for various clubs. He also fulfilled leadership roles
within our district of clubs to include coaching other clubs. He was
the 2003/2004 Area Governor of the year for the Central Division. Ryan
joined HealthToasters a couple of years ago and since he completed the
requirements for the DTM as a member of HealthToasters, we figure our
club has been his graduate school.
Stephen
Shaner
Stephen is an honorary member of the HealthToasters club because he
still loves us. HealthToasters is Stephen’s original Toastmaster club.
He became a member in 2000 and since the early milestones that led him
to the DTM were achieved at HealthToasters, this club served as his
elementary school. Stephen has since moved out of the area but visits
the club whenever he can.
DTM
To achieve the DTM award, a Toastmaster member must
demonstrate communication and leadership skills by accomplishing
several tasks. These tasks are well described by the TI organization
through its manuals for communication assignments. Yes, we mean they
had to deliver speeches to club mates. As they completed those
speeches, they received credit toward the projects in the manual. Once
a manual or two is complete, the Toastmaster member reaches another
level in the communication track through a series that is known as
Competent Communication and then Advanced Communicator levels
designated as Bronze, Silver, and Gold. That’s approximately 50
speeches required to reach the DTM level and each one has particular
goals defined. Besides communication skills, the DTM award requires
similar advancement in a series of leadership projects. These projects
include leadership at the club level and beyond.
President's
Distinguished Club
Our club demonstrates its status as a leading club
by the achievements of its members, such as Ryan. Each year July
through June, Toastmasters clubs measure their progress in the
Distinguished Club Program. This year we once again reached the highest
level of achievement and are a President’s Distinguished Club. See our
Club
Achievements page for some of the detail of our new members and
member individual achievements that led to our status.
